OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO broke every record of participation!

The 10th OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO which took place on Sunday, April 10th on Limassol’s Coastal road has broken every record of participation! The president of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, gave the starting gunshot for the 13000 runners. More than fifty countries were represented by their runners at OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO, and people from 6 to over 80 years old also gave their presence. A special reference should be made to the disabled athletes who proudly participated and completed their race of preference.

On his opening speech, Mr. Anastasiades highlighted the social contribution of OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO, which was to support and promote the activities of the Karaiskakio Foundation. He also gave credit to the volunteers for their help and pointed out the unprecedented mass participation, as well as the great exposure of Cyprus because of the participation of foreign runners.
The winner of the Marathon Race was Tomasz Klisz from Poland, who covered the distance of 42.195 meters on 2 hours, 41 minutes and 49 seconds. Pavel Borodin from Dro.Me.A. Racing took the 2nd place and Michael Keenan from GSO the 3rd. Last year, Michael Keenan was awarded the 2nd place. For the Female category, Sylwia Bondara from Poland took the first place with time 3:12:40, with the Cypriots Dagmara Handzlik and Ioulia Andreou taking the 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Tomasz Klisz states: “I am very happy since I have won on my birthday, and also scored a personal record, on just the second Marathon that I attended. I will be here for next year for sure”.

From her behalf, Sylwia Bondara stated: “It was a very difficult Race because of the heat, but I have enjoyed the Race next to the sea.

On the Half Marathon Race, the Russian Igor Sysoev from Cycleon took the 1st place with time 1:15:03. Greek Tasos Tseronis from APOEL received the second place and Cypriot Fernando Ramon Avellaneda the 3rd. In women, Yarden Harlev from Israel won the 1st place with time of 1:34:37. Louise Parr from United Kingdom and RAF took the 2nd place and Katia Ronchini from Italy the 3rd.
The other races of OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO were the Petrolina 10km Energy Race, The 5km City Race and the PrimeTel 5km Corporate Race. At the latter, more than 200 companies and 8000 runners participated. The winning team was Sanctum Spa & Fitness At Limassol Marina, which was represented by 120 people. The biggest team of the Corporate Race was PrimeTel. 1500 kids also took also part in the McDonald’s 1km Kids Race.

The Title Sponsor of the event was OPAP Cyprus and Gold Sponsors were: Cyprus Tourism Organization, Aegean, PrimeTel, Petrolina, McDonald’s, GAP Vassilopoulos, Marathon Trading, EventPro, KIA Motors, Agios Nicolaos, ICE POWER, MyMall Limassol, CNP Asfalistiki, HoneyWell Travel and Guaba Beach Bar.

Fully accredited by AIMS, the OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO is a flat course which follows the Mediterranean coastline. From the centre of the city, along the beachfront, to the ruins of the ancient Royal city of Amathus, and back to the city. 42.195 kilometres. 26.2188 miles. 26.2188 smiles.
