Cyprus is the third largest island of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a nation with several communities, including a Greek Cypriot Community which is the largest, a Turkish Cypriot, a Maronite, an Armenian and a Latin Community. The official languages are Greek, English, and Turkish, with the first two being widely used across the island.
The democratically elected government consists of a President and a 12-member cabinet of Ministers, as well as a 56-seat Parliament. The official currency of the country as of January 1st 2008 is the Euro.
Nicosia, the countrys capital, is the only divided capital of Europe, after the Turkish invasion of 1974, which left the island divided.
With regards to sports, Cyprus offers a wide choice of sport facilities, ranging from gyms, to training grounds, Olympic size swimming pools, biking and hiking routes and generally everything that a modern sports man or woman desires.
Many International Organizations have recognized Cyprus as an ideal training destination and many National Olympic Organizations choose Cyprus ahead of international competitions such as the Olympic Games and World Championships.
