At the gates the 13th OPAP Limassol Marathon

The largest sporting event in Cyprus with 15,000 runners takes place on the weekend of March 23-24.


The eyes of the whole of Cyprus are on Limassol as this Weekend March 23-24, the 13th OPAP Limassol Marathon is held, the largest sporting event in Cyprus, in which 15,000 runners will take part this year. & Nbsp;

On Saturday, 23 March and at 9:00 am will be the start of the Primetel Corporate Road 5km with the participation of 240 companies and teams. Andrey & amp; amp; will start at 11:00 am Julia Dashin’s Foundation Youth Race, which is under the auspices of First Lady Andris Anastasiadis. Children 6-16 participate in it, free of charge. However, the registration is necessary, which can be done at the registration offices in the old port of Limassol, until 10:00 am, on the day of the race. Petrolina Energy Day will be in progress from 9:00 am on Saturday (23/3) Marathon Village, next to the start / finish line. A celebration with music, exercise, activities and nutrition tips. On Saturday afternoon (23/3 - 17:00) the Mitsides Pasta Party takes place in the same place, so that the runners get a strong dose of carbohydrates, in view of Sunday's race (24/3). & Nbsp;

The curtain actually opened on Thursday, March 21 with the 3rd Street Movement Forum presented by the Bank of Cyprus. The keynote speaker was Tim Kilduff, former director of the Boston Marathon, while the position of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Savva Perdiou, was also important. & Nbsp;

Schedule for Sunday & nbsp;

On Sunday, March 24, the 42,195-meter marathon will start at 7:30 am, followed by the Half Marathon (7 : 45am), Petrolina Energy Road 10km (8:00am) and City Race 5km (8:15am). The track record in men is 2:13:29 and was set by Moses Kibet in 2010. In the same year Natalia Sergeeva set the record in women (2:38:56). The OPAP Limassol Marathon is also the Pancyprian Road Marathon Championship of KOEAS, it is in the IAAF calendar, its performance is considered official, while it is certified by AIMS. Organizers are , the Municipality of Limassol, EBE Limassol and ETAP Limassol. Athletes on Sunday (24/3) are transported free of charge to the starting line by EMEL buses. & Nbsp;

Itineraries start from Elias Beach Hotel at 5:30 am and continue every ten minutes until 6:30 & nbsp;

Three thousand arrivals & nbsp;

The 13th OPAP Limassol Marathon is expected to take place approximately 15,000 runners of all ages, while the number of arrivals from abroad for the event is estimated at 3,000. ANT-1 will broadcast live the 13th OPAP Limassol Marathon on Saturday (23/3) from 8:40 am and on Sunday (24/3) from 9:15 am. & Nbsp;

OPAP Limassol Marathon supports the Karaiskaki Foundation for the fourth consecutive year while from This year it has signed up with the "Give and Gain" platform through which everyone can run for a cause and all of us can support that goal. For the second consecutive year OPAP Limassol Marathon "runs" the Going Green by Muskita program, with the cooperation of TEPAK and the goal in 2020 is for the event to be a model of environmental management for sporting events. & Nbsp;

Traffic Regulations & nbsp;

On Saturday (23/3) both lanes of the coastal road will be closed from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, from the intersection of the traffic lights of 28th of October Street with the street Griva Digeni. & Nbsp;

On Sunday (24/3) the beach front from Epichosi to Elias Hotel will be closed from 6:00 am to 2:00 p.m. The road will be given to traffic gradually, depending on the course of the athletes. & Nbsp; The part west of the Embankment will also be closed, as the route through Franklin Roosevelt Avenue is directed to the roundabout of New Port. & Nbsp;

From there, through the parallel road of the New Port, go to the Lady΄s Mile roundabout and continue on the vertical road in front of My Mall, to the roundabout of Roosevelt, from where it goes west to Asomatos until the junction with the entrance to the Waterpark, where it reverses. All route will be closed. & Nbsp;
