This year due to the postponement of the OPAP Limassol Marathon , the Andrey and Julia Dashin’s Foundation Youth race goes virtual and takes place between the 21st November until the 12th December 2020 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth.
Our young and aspiring runners from 5th and 6th grade of Primary school and 1st grade of Junior High school ,of the Limassol district, have the opportunity to participate in the virtual version of the Andrey & Julia Dashin's Foundation Youth Race, which is the largest celebration of happiness and spread of the ideals of sports, by covering the distance of 500 and 1,000 meters respectively.
The procedure of taking part to the Virtual Dashin’s Foundation Youth race is simple. First, the students register with the assistance of their teachers and run the required distance in their free time by recording their effort via a tracking application from a mobile phone. After the completion of their race, the students need to send a screenshot verifying that they covered the relevant distance to virtual@limassolmarathon.com. The students have the chance to complete their distance in multiple attempts within the period of the event.
For every student who successfully completes the run, the OPAP Limassol Marathon will send to their school a race pack that will contain a finisher medal and a finisher diploma.
The minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Mr. Prodromos Prodromou highlighted the need of awareness between students for a healthy lifestyle through physical exercise and specified: “Especially during these adverse circumstances that we are facing today due to the pandemic, the Ministry supports and reinforces the opportunities for exercise outside the confines of the school hours, so that physical exercise becomes a way of life for the future generations of Cyprus. The guidance to a more active lifestyle is a guarantee of health not only for the human body but also for the human mind and spirit”.
The founder of Andrey & Julia Dashin’s Foundation, Mrs. Julia Dashina stated that “participation in the Virtual Youth Race sparks the interest that a child needs, in order to start exercising regularly, adopting from an early stage the standards of a healthy way of leaving. The satisfaction and smiles on the faces of little athletes embody the biggest victory, in this beautiful trip that A&J Dashin’s Foundation in cooperation with Virtual OPAP Limassol offers”.
With regards to the participation of the students in the Virtual Dashin’s Foundation Youth Race relevant information have been sent in the Primary and Junior high schools of Cyprus.
